Terni is worth a visit for the Church of San Salvatore, a tiny and delightful church originally built in the 3rd century BC as a sun temple. Terni’s art gallery is located in the Palazzo Manessei and includes works by Mirò, Kandinsky, and Chagall. Nearby, the Cascata delle Marmore is a stupendous man-made waterfall some 162 m in height, originally engineered under the rule of the Roman consul Curius Dentatus in 271 BC. Extensive remains of the Roman town of Carsulae, founded in 220 BC, lie 14km northwest of Terni.
