The Palio dei Terzieri is without a doubt the most important event held in Città della Pieve.  It consists of an archery competition, called “Caccia al Toro”, that is held the Sunday after the 15th of August, the day in which the Terziere that lost the previous year launches a challenge to the current  winner.
The competition is held among the three Terzieri

(neighborhoods), evolved from the division of the medieval town into three parts whose residents reflected three distinct social classes of the period:  la Classe dei Cavalieri (Knights), la Classe Borghese (Bourgeois), and la Classe dei Pedoni (Pedestrian). Today they correspond roughly to the Terziere Castello, the Terziere Borgo Dentro and the Terziere Casalino. During this entire period (from the beginning of the second week in August to the Palio) it is possible to eat at the Taverne of each Terziere and enjoy local dishes accompanied by some good wine and served by Ladies and Gentlemen dressed in Renaissance costumes.
