Norcia was the birthplace of St. Benedict, founder of Western monasticism. The Abbazia di San Eutizio, 16 km north of Norcia, was one of the first Benedictine monasteries.
The Romanesque church and bell tower, built in 1190, is one of the region’s most impressive sights.
However, Norcia is better known as a center for the processing and curing of pork, so much so that pork butchers all over Italy are known as norcini. |
