Today this city has a thriving jewelry business, producing chains, bracelets and rings. On the first Sunday of every month, a huge antiques fair is held in the streets and alleys of its center. In the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, Piero delle Francesca’s recently restored frescoes depict The Legend of the True Cross, a story painted in a dream-like style that was unique to this Renaissance artist. On the first Sunday in September, the Piazza Grande is the venue for the Giostra del Saraceno, the Joust of the Saracen, in which horsemen ride at full tilt and lunge with their lances at the Saracen’s shield.
